Ontwerper Papa Oyeyemi van Nigeriaans modelabel MAXIVIVE presenteert op woensdag 25 januari zijn nieuwe project met een bijzondere presentatie in ons pand aan de Hettenheuvelweg 8, in Amsterdam Zuidoost. In de magische voormalige tentoonstellingsruimte van kunstenaar patricia kersenhout toont Oyeyemi de film \u2018Pink Lounge\u2019 over Safe Houses in Lagos met aansluitend de modeshow van zijn nieuwe collectie: Artisanal Wet\/Dry 2023.<\/p>\n

Voor deze tweede show van MAXIVIVE in Amsterdam gaat creative director Papa Oyeyemi een partnerschap aan met SHEBANG en CBK Zuidoost. Met zijn collectie en presentatie borduurt hij voort op het artistieke concept van zijn unieke modeshow vorig jaar waarbij de modellen over een drijvende catwalk liepen op de Amstel voor Carr\u00e9. Deze spektakelshow vond plaats in samenwerking met het SWEETS Hotel Amstelschutsluis.<\/p>\n

Oyeyemi\u2019s werk is tentoongesteld in het Royal Pavilion and Museums, Brighton (VK) en het Tropenmuseum, Amsterdam (Nederland). Maxivive is een Nigeriaans modehuis dat zich met succes richt op het verenigen van mode, kunst en activisme. Maxivive is te zien geweest op verschillende internationale mediaplatforms, waaronder Vogue, GQ, CNN en BBC, en was het onderwerp van een originele HBO-documentaire getiteld The Legend of the Underground<\/em> die in premi\u00e8re ging op het Tribeca Film Festival 2021.<\/p>\n

People in a hallway so brightly lit, it hurts\u2026 They speak of sexuality, politics, religion, and the place of God in the lives of contemporary people\u2026 They prattle on in excited voices, as people do in a crowded airport, moving in and out of an alternative reality composed of their consumerist desires and dreams of a better life. In the midst of the melee, one face stands out \u2013 that of Judgy Stella \u2013 whose eyes reflect a studied sophistication and swim in pools of exotic fantasy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

The concept that underpins the Artisanal Wet\/Dry 2023 collection is illustrated by the character Judgy Stella. 101212 is one of the oldest Lagos postcodes in existence, and it holds essential clues to the essential nature of this character. Various design elements drawn from Maxivive’s past sixteen years are pinned to the mood board. Highly emotive colours and shapes that are sewn or glued to a plain canvas seem like the wild mood swings of an otherwise sedate personality. A wide variety of design techniques are employed in weaving new inspiration into these garment creations, bringing chromatic contrast, formal repetition and varying textures into a harmonious union in each intricate piece. This collection is the result of extensive research into traditional artisanal methods from Africa and beyond, yet the aesthetic futurism that cult followers of Maxivive expect is evident throughout the range of ensembles.<\/p>\n
