Op zaterdag 14 april is het zover, de Afrikadag 2018: hét event over Afrika en internationale samenwerking in het KIT in Amsterdam, georganiseerd door FEPS en FMS. Dit jaar staat de dag in het teken van nieuw activisme. Want ondanks dat de traditionele macht nog vaak gesloten is, weten activisten vaak verandering teweeg te brengen. Wie spreken hierover nou meer vanuit het hart dan activisten zelf? Met Moses Isooba van de pan-Afrikaanse beweging Africans Rising en de pas 27-jarige Tikhala Itaye uit Malawi, krijgt de dag meteen een mooie opening. Kersvers hoofdredacteur van OneWorld, Seada Nourhussen, zal deze twee activisten interviewen om al hun ervaringen te horen!
Maar er is veel meer. De Ethiopische auteur Leenco Lata geeft een indrukwekkende speech over het begrip "failed states", Jan Pronk vertelt over zijn nieuwste boek en Lilianne Ploumen blikt terug op haar ministerschap. Ook is er natuurlijk veel aandacht voor kunst en cultuur. De dag wordt knallend afgesloten met al weer de zesde editie van "Africa at Night" in Desmet Studio's! Op het programma…
Naast verschillende activisten uit Afrika is er ook veel aandacht voor ander thema's. Er zijn verschillende workshops over migratie, auteurs van de bundel Zwart komen langs en je kan handige tips krijgen voor je lobby. Ook is er veel aandacht voor de rol van nieuwe technologieën, het belang van de diaspora en 'women empowerment'. Aan het eind van de dag wordt de Albert Schweitzer Prijs 2018 uitgereikt voor het beste idee om gezondheidszorg in Afrika te verbeteren. iAfrica Festival en cultuur op de Afrikadag
Dit jaar is er weer een speciale editie van het iAfrica Festival op de Afrikadag! Yangambi organiseert een speciaal programma vol met kunst en cultuur. Met je Afrikadagkaartje kan je de hele middag binnenlopen. Ook in de pauze hoef je je niet te vervelen: Labyrinth organiseert een speciaal programma met verschillende spoken word artiesten en natuurlijk heerlijk eten! Moe van alle indrukken? "Africa at Night" met Paa Kofi
Maar de Afrikadag is natuurlijk niet compleet zonder de knallende afterparty "Africa at Night". Project Nana organiseert nu al voor de zesde keer deze te gekke avond voor ons. Behalve liveoptredens en heerlijke beats van onder andere Paa Kofi, is er ook weer een Afrikaanse maaltijd te koop. Dus sluit 14 april zeker af in Desmet Studio's!

On Saturday 14 April, the annual Afrikadag will take place: the event on Africa and international cooperation, organised by FEPS and FMS at the Royal Tropical Institute (KIT) in Amsterdam. This year, it will be all about new activism. Because despite traditional politics being quite closed, activists know how the enforce change. Who can speak more from the heart about this than activists themselves? With Moses Isooba from the pan-African movement Africans Rising, and the only 27-year-old Tikhala Itaye from Malawi, the day will start joyfully. New editor in chief of OneWorld, Seada Nourhussen, will interview the two activists to hear all about their experiences.
But there is more. Ethiopian author Leenco Lata will give an impressive speech about the concept of "failed states", Jan Pronk will speak about his newest book, and Lillianne Ploumen will look back at her years as minister. On the programme…
Besides the different activists from Africa, many other topics will be highlighted during the day. There will be several workshops on migration, the authors of the book Zwart will be there and you can get some tips for your lobby. The role of new technologies, the importance of the diaspora, and 'women empowerment' will also be discussed. At the end of the day, the Albert Schweitzer Award 2018 will be awarded to the best idea on how to improve healthcare in Africa. iAfrica Festival and culture at the Afrikadag
A special edition of the iAfrica Festival will take place once again at the Afrikadag. Yangambi organises a special programme full of arts and culture. With your Afrikadag ticket you can walk in the whole afternoon. Also during the lunchbreak, you will not get a chance to get bored: Labyrinth organises a lunch programme with several spoken word artists and, of course, delicious food. Are you tired of all the new impressions? Then go watch one of the documentaries or movies that will be shown at Afrikadag.
"Africa at Night" with Paa Kofi
Afrikadag will not be complete without the spectacular afterparty "Africa at Night". Project Nana organises this amazing event for already the sixth time!
